A new voice, a new face… A better world?

President Barack Obama

President Barack Obama

Barack Obama is now the 44th President of the U.S.A. A dream has now been realized. Now the question is…how good will the dream turn out to be?

I remember being 8 years old. I got a creepy crawler bug thingy for Christmas. I imagined all the cool and creepy bugs I was going to make. The commercial made it seem like so much fun. I had no idea about time lapse video in commercials or staging. So when I got my creepy crawler set all open, it took what seemed like an ETERNITY to make the bugs. The little oven had to heat up, you had to take the bugs out of the mold, just right or they broke and they had a horrible smell! But I was determined to become a creepy crawler expert putting the kids in the commercial to shame so much I insisted my Grandma let me take it with us on our trip to Louisiana. Hmm, looking back so many things went wrong.

#1 I was to afraid to let my newly found relatives play with with it

#2. My newly found relatives (the girls) didn’t want to play with it

#3.  I got sick and tired of the oven and the baking and the broken bugs.

#4.  I ended up forgetting it in Louisiana

So what’s the point of all this?

So many have such high hopes of what the new President will be able to accomplish during his Presidency. But he is 1 man. We cannot touch the type of change President Obama has been campaigning on. But without a doubt it can be perceived within our hearts and minds. How are you and I choosing to make changes in our own lives and in the lives of others? What is something intangible you want that you are willing to work for and willing to accept help in getting?

a. Being the real you-all the time in front of everyone

b. Dealing with old issues that have been dragging behind you like Linus’s old dirty and tattered blanket

c.working on a personal relationship and being willing and wanting to see the reality of your own behavior.

d. accepting the decisions of your past as your decisions (if you felt choice less, voice less or not)

The hardest part of change is change. It’s easy to see the same old paths and ways of seeing the world. You are an expert at that! It’s difficult and time consuming to see the new path, even move some rocks and boulders out of your way. It’s difficult to change. Implicit in the word change, is longevity. Change is a decision we then support everyday. If you do something for 2 weeks, that’s not change, that’s called “taking a break”.

So let’s support President and the new Administration in pacing the journey. Sprinting will lead us (U.S) into catastrophe as it would in our own personal lives. We need to pay attention and we need to accept where we are, before we can move ahead.

So right now, we have a creepy crawler reality that we have to deal with. Let’s WANT to deal with it. Let’s embrace our smelly mess everyday! If we do, then we will be on the right path. Pointing fingers is a pointless waste of time, that really is just an indicator of nonacceptance. If we embrace “us” the U.S., we will embark upon a smoother path filled with opportunities for personal and community wisdom unprecedented.
